Best Spaghetti Sauce You’ll Ever Make

A little fun fact about me, that my husband is well aware of- I’m a terrible cook and a picky eater, but he married me anyways! My husband comes from a Cuban family that makes big meals every chance they get that are always super delicious and flavorful, so I’m always browsing Pinterest for recipe ideas for dinner to try to keep up. If it was up to me, I would live on chocolate chip pancakes/waffles, Lucky Charms and an occasional spinach salad to maintain a healthy balance. Too bad for me, my husband doesn’t share the same thoughts, thus I rely heavily on Pinterest for easy-to-make recipes and recipes that my picky-self will actually enjoy too.

While searching for dinner ideas a few months ago, I found a homemade spaghetti sauce recipe on A Pretty Life, and my husband LOVES spaghetti, but I’ve never been a huge fan. I decided to try it out anyways just for him, and I have to say, it’s delicious, and pretty hard to mess up. Score! I changed the original recipe a little bit (some by accident, some on purpose) and it’s perfect, so here is my version, it feeds about 4 people:

Ingredients
  • 1 to 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 3/4 of a large onion, chopped (depending on your
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 – 14 oz can plain tomato sauce
  • 1 – 5.5 oz can tomato paste
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 5-6 fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • salt & fresh ground pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 – 19 oz can diced tomatoes
Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, mix the beef with the onions and garlic and cook the beef all the way through until brown. Then drain and return to the pan.
  2. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, wine, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, oregano, basil and salt & pepper and stir. (And optional diced tomatoes and whatever other vegetables non-picky people eat)
  3. Simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, covered.
  4. When there’s about 5-10 minutes left, boil some water to cook your noodles and throw some Texas Toast in the over or cut up some fresh bread and voila, you have spaghetti night!

And for the record, I’m not a good cook, but I’ve been complimented on my baking many times, and sweets are all that really matters anyways, right?

One more tip: this sauce is also great in lasagna!

I would love to know how much you love this sauce if you make it! Let me know in the comments below!
