A Sanibel Island Babymoon

When I first got pregnant and started thinking about a babymoon (because, hello, any reason to travel is a great reason) I originally thought Hawaii or Seattle. But the further along I got in the pregnancy, I realized how uncomfortable I would be, physically, flying anywhere that far away. And Hawaii is a longgg way from Florida, and super expensive, but totally worth it when you’re not growing a tiny human in your stomach. So we decided on Sanibel Island, FL! My family used to vacation there during summers and it’s probably my favorite laid back “beach town”. I prefer it over Key West to be honest! There’s no nightlife really, and it’s more of an island for relaxing and hanging at the beach. We hadn’t been to the island in a few years but we were surprised to see that virtually nothing had changed! The restaurants and shops were all the exact same, it was just how we left it the last time…like it’s stuck in a time capsule. Not to mention, there’s no big brands on the island…the only known-brand I’ve seen is the 7/11 gas station, other than that it’s all local places.

We stayed at the Sanibel Harbor Marriott Resort and Spa that’s just on the other side of the bridge that takes you onto the island, and we went onto the island to lay on the beach and to eat (my current favorite thing to do). I felt a little bad that we were so limited to what we could do since I’m pregnant, but it was actually really nice just relaxing and eating all weekend. Some of my favorite restaurants on the island that we ate at include The Island Cow and Over Easy Cafe for breakfast, both were super delicious! And for dinner my favorites were The Bubble Room (a Captiva Island staple) and Matzaluna Italian Kitchen – the fettuccine alfredo was AH-MAZING 🙂

The resort had a great pool that we enjoyed laying by and having lunch. They even let me order off the kids menu since they had grilled cheese on there, and it was actually very good for a kid’s grilled cheese! I figured if they said no, I could just argue that the baby in my tummy is under the age of 12…LOL. I didn’t take very many pictures and when I went to take pictures of the hotel on our last morning, my lens fogged up and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it! 🙁

Anyways, just 10 more weeks until our little one arrives and we are so excited! I’ve heard people get a rush of energy in the second trimester, but I was pretty much in hibernation if I wasn’t working, but the energy is just now starting to hit me. I’m in full nesting mode and feel like there’s so much I want to get done but I won’t hold my breath on completing that list. Lol.

Did you take a babymoon before your little one arrived? If so, I’d love to hear about it!

XO
